LONDON: Cristiano Ronaldo has won, for the fifth time in seven years, the award of the world’s leading international goalscorer for the calendar year with country and club.
After 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, he is again the No1 in the world, having scored 14 international goals with Portugal and seven international goals with FC Juventus in UEFA Champions League.
With 21 international goals in 2019, Ronaldo led Ali Mabkhout (United Arab Emirates), who scored 19 international goals with
his country and England’s Harry Kane, also 19 goals (12 goals with England and seven with Tottenham).
Ali Mabkhout topped 2019 for national team goals (19 with UAE)) while Bafetimbi Gomis the club goals tally for his 13 with Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.
Some 34 players were computed by the International Federation of Football Historians and Statisticians as having scored 10 international goals or more – from UEFA (14), AFC (8), CONMEBOL (4), CAF (3), OFC (3), CONCACAF (2).
The most represented clubs in the top 34 are Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern München, Inter Milan, Zenit St Petersburg and Al Sadd, (all with two players.
The most represented leagues are English Premier League (10), Serie A Italy (three), Premier Liga Russia (three), Bundesliga Germany (two), Saudi Football League (two) and Qatar Stars League (2).
