LONDON: No change this week at the top of the rankings for the ESM European Golden Shoe which rewards the leading marksman in the region’s league competitions.

Leader Ciro Immobile’s Lazio won 1-0 at Parma in Italy’s Serie A without his striking help and, similarly, closest pursuer Robert Lewandowski was kept quiet in Bayern’s Munich’s goalless draw with RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.

However Cristiano Ronaldo moved up into the top three with his goal in Juventus’ 2-1 defeat by Verona in Serie A.

Ronaldo has now scored in 10 successive Serie A games for Juventus. He has claimed 51 goals in 71 appearances since joining them in 2018.

No player from Serie A has won the Golden Shoe since Roma’s Francesco Totti with 26 goals in 2006-07.

The Golden Shoe is based on a ranking computed according to UEFA’s July rankings.  Thus marksmen from among the top five nations benefit from a mu ltiple of 2.0, the next batch (places six to 22) a factor of 1.5 and the remainder 1.0.

As in previous years the Golden Shoe does not consider goals in play-off competitions.

Last season’s winner was Lionel Messi for a record-extending sixth time.
