LONDON: Joe Allen, the Stoke and Wales midfielder, will miss the rest of the Euro finals after suffering a ruptured Achilles in Stoke’s -1 win over Hull in the Championship/second tier.

Allen, who had been tripped by Dan Batty just on half-time, undergoes surgery in the next days and will thus miss Wales’ third appearance at a major finals. The 29-year-old played a key role in helping Wales to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

Stoke manager Michael O’Neill said: “It’s a huge loss, he’s a terrific player and a terrific lad. I am gutted for him, he had so much to look forward to with Euro 2020 as well.”
