MADRID: Radomir Antic, the only man to have coached Real and Atletico Madrid as well as Barcelona, has died aged 71.

‘Raddy’ was born in 1948 in the former Yugoslavia and played for Sloboda Užice, Partizan Belgrade, Turkey’s Fenerbahçe and Spain’s Zaragoza before joining England’s Luton Town in 1980.

Midfielder Antic scored 10 goals in 108 games, helping the Hatters win promotion to Division One in the 1981-82 campaign.

However, it was his strike against Manchester City at the end of the 1982-83 season which earned his hero status at Kenilworth Road.

Luton were moments away from relegation when before Antic netted with four minutes to go, sealing a 1-0 victory and sending then manager David Pleat into a famous jig of delight.

He won one cap for his country before retiring and launching a career in management with Zaragoza in 1988.

Spells followed with Real Madrid, Oviedo, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Celta Vigo. He won the league and cup double with Atletico in 1995–96.

Later Antic was in charge of Serbia for two years, leading them into the 2010 World Cup finals, before heading to the Chinese Super League, managing both Shandong Luneng and Hebei China Fortune.
