BUDAPEST: Social distancing guidelines were ignored by some sets of fans as Honved beat Mezokovesd-Zsory 2-1 in the Hungarian cup final in the Puskas Arena.

Only the lower tier of the 67,215-capacity Puskas Arena was open with fans encouraged to sit apart but rival groups crowded togethrr behind both goals in the first European country to allow fans to attend games since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ivran Lovric put Honved ahead, Laszlo Pekar equalised then Djordje Kamber scored the winner just before the hour to secure Honved’s eighth cup success.

Last Friday Red Bull Salzburg boss Jesse Marsch made history as the first born-and-bred American coach to win a major European trophy when his side won the Austrian Cup.

Salzburg beat Austria Lustenau 5-0 to secure a second consecutive Austrian Cup win.
