KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, by virtue of the German Bundesliga’s resumption, is the new leader of the revived race for to win the ESM European Golden Boot.

The Golden Shoe is based on a ranking computed according to UEFA’s rankings last July.  Thus marksmen from among the top five nations benefit from a multiple of 2.0, the next batch including Austria (places six to 22 ) a factor of 1.5 and the remainder 1.0.

Lewandowski: Closed-doors celebration time again

The European Sports Media group has decided to resume the ranking while acknowledging that some leagues have already finished. As in previous years the Golden Shoe does not consider goals in play-off competitions.

Lewandowski now has 30 goals, three more than Lazio’s Ciro Immobile from Italy where Serie A will not resume until June 20. He has scored in four of Bayern’s five games after the resumption, only going empty-handed in the win away to his former club Borussia Dortmund.

Last season’s winner was Lionel Messi for a record-extending sixth time.
