ROME: Cristiano Ronaldo’s hopes of finishing as Europe’s top scorer as winner of the ESM European Golden Shoe faded as he failed to score as champions Juventus were beaten by Cagliari.

Ronaldo has scored 31 Serie A goals this season but was out of luck as Juve, already assured of the Serie A crown again, went down to goals from Luca Gagliano and Giovanni Simeone.

Ronaldo trails Lazio striker Ciro Immobile by four goals in the Golden Shoe race with Immobile scoring his 35th league goal in Lazio’s 2-0 defeat of Brescia.

Immobile, with one game of the Serie A season remaining, is the outright leading scorer in Europe after his latest strike moved him ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, who finished the Bundesliga season with 34 goals.

Immobile is also just one goal away from equalling the Serie A record for most goals in a 20-club season. Gonzalo Higuain scored 36 times for Napoli in the 2015-16 campaign.
