LONDON: A first-half Raul Jimenez penalty was enough for Wolves to beat Olympiakos 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate in the last 16 of the Europa League.

They will now meet five-time winners Sevilla in the quarter-finals in Duisberg on Tuesday, with the remainder of the competition played as one-off ties in Germany.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had to work hard for victory, and can count themselves lucky as Jimenez’s eighth-minute spot-kick came courtesy of an incredible error from goalkeeper Bobby Allain, who failed to control a back pass before dragging down Daniel Podence in the box.

But Wolves’ real moment of fortune came midway through the first half when Olympiakos looked to have equalised through Mo Camara, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside in the build-up, a decision that took an age for the video assistant referee to make.

They also endured an anxious finale, with Rui Patricio’s fine save denying Ahmed Hassan a leveller, but Wolves continue to progress in a campaign which started more than a year ago in the Europa League qualifiers.
