KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: The imminent appointment of Stefan Keller as Extraordinary Attorney General of Switzerland is not good news for FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Keller was the senior prosecutor who instituted a criminal investigation into events surrounding meetings between now-departed Attorney General Michael Lauber and the head of the world football federation.

Now the  parliamentary judicial committee has recommended the specific upgraded role for Keller which puts him in a new and even more influential position vis-a-vis  Lauber/Infantino saga.

His opinions are clear after his initial finding of “reprehensible behaviour”.

The ongoing investigation will focus on suspicions of abuse of authority, violation of official secrecy and obstruction of criminal proceedings in the context also of the involement of the senior prosecutor of Haut-Valais, Rinaldo Arnold.

Lauber formally submitted his resignation at the end of July for January 31. But due to an accumulated vacation balance, he was able to leave his post afer nine years in office on August 31. His replacement is expected to be elected by the Federal Assembly this winter.

Infantino has denied all wrongdoing and described the process as “absurd.”
