KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: A new twist to the pandemic restriction rules has been thrown up for European federation UEFA on its own doorstep in Switzerland.

Positive Covid-19 test results within the Ukrainian national squad have prompted the Swiss authorities to place the entire delegation in quarantine.

That meant calling off tonight [Tuesday’s] Nations League tie against Switzerland since the Ukraine federation cannot field a team.

A UEFA statement said: “The matter will now be submitted to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, for a decision to be taken in accordance with the special rules applicable to UEFA National Team competition matches.”

This follows the weekend fixtures slip when Sunday’s Nations League fixture between Romania and Norway had to be called off on orders of the Norwegian government.

The Norwegian health ministry had barred the team from travelling to Bucharest and ordered them instead into quarantine after a positive test for Galatasaray right back Omar Elabdellaoui.
