BUENOS AIRES: Diego Maradona’s doctor, Leopoldo Luque , has been questioned and had his house and clinic raided by police inquiring into circumstances surrounding the superstar’s death.

The raid followed a statement by Maradona’s daughters Dalma, Gianinna and Jana, indicating Luque as the main person responsible for carelessness in the care of their father in recent weeks.

Luque will have to appear before prosecutors on suspicion of medical negligence in the last days of the former player’s life and, therefore, a possible crime of manslaughter.

Prosecutors are investigating reports that Maradona did not have a medical discharge when he went home from the clinic where he underwent surgery for a brain tumor.

Luque said: “They took clinical files. There was no medical error. I did the best I could with Diego. He needed help.”

Maradona’s lawyer, Matias Moria, said on Thursday that he would ask for a full investigation of the circumstances of the death, criticising what he said was a slow response by emergency service.

Matias said, via Twitter: “The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive, which was a criminal idiocy.”
