EIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: Kasper Junker of Norway’s Bodo/Glimt is the 27-goal leader in the Christmas compilation of the ESM European Golden Shoe rankings.
The Scandinavian leagues which traditionally play to a calendar-year schedule always provide the initial leaders before being overtaken in due course by the superstars of western Europe.
Junker, a 26-year-old former Danish under-21 international, joined Bodo/Glimt at the start of the year from AC Horsens.
Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski is the leading pursuer from the traditional Golden Shoe powers with 17 goals so far in the Bundesliga.
The Golden Shoe is based on a ranking computed according to UEFA’s end-of-season rankings. Thus marksmen from among the top five nations benefit from a multiple of 2.0, the next batch (places six to 22 ) a factor of 1.5 and the remainder 1.0.
Last season’s winner was Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.
