ROME: Juventus, three days after losing 2-0 to Internazionale in Serie A, bounced back by winning the Italian Supercup by that same margin against Napoli on goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata..

This was Juventus’ ninth Supercup but winning was hard work and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was one of their heroes with two fine saves from Hirving Lozano.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 64th minute after a corner ricocheted off the back of Tiémoué Bakayoko. Morata struck the decisive goal six minutes into second half stoppage time.

Morata is the only Juventus player to have scored at least one goal in Juve’s four competitions this season – the Italian Supercup, Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup.

Andrea Pirlo thus landed the first trophy of his fledgling new career as a coach against his old friend Gennaro Gattuso.

** Real Madrid were knocked out of the Spanish cup after losing 2-1 after extra time away to third division Alcoyano.
