BUENOS AIRES: Little-known Defensa y Justicia from Florencio Varela in the Buenos Aires region have won their first major trophy in beating fellow Argentinian opponents Lanus 3-0 in the final of the Copa Sudamericana.

Former national team striker Hernan Crespo thus also won the first major prize of his own coaching career after the one-off final in Cordoba.

Adonis Frias (34), Braian Romero (62) and Washington Camacho (90) scored the goals.

Defensa were founded in 1935 and reached the top division in Argentina only in 2014. They play home matches in the 20,000-capacity Estadio Norberto Tomaghello.

Victory in the Copa Sudamericana entitles them to the top continental competition, the Copa Libertadores.
