KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: Constant Omari, caretaker president of the African Football Confederation, has been barred from standing for re-election to the governing council of world federation FIFA.

The Congolese has been barred by FIFA’s elibility panel, CAF has been told, on the grounds that he is currently under investigation by the world body’s ethics committee.

Omari is under investigation over issues which also involved Ahmad Ahmad, the president of CAF who is suspended from all football activity for fve years and cannot stand for re-election himself at a CAF congress in Rabat on March 12.

Ahmad was banned for his mishandling of CAF, including the unauthorised financing of a pilgrimage of some CAF executive committee members to Mecca, the contracting of a minor sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other issues.

He has denied all wrongdoing and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Also barred by FIFA from standing for a slot on its council is Algeria’s Kheïreddine Zetchi.

Four candidates have been approved to stand for the presidency by both CAF and FIFA: Ahmed Yahya, 44, from Mauritania, South African millionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe, 58, Augustin Emmanuel Senghor, 55, from Senegal and Ivory Coast FA president Jacques Anouma, 69.
