KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: The French league match between Marseille and Rennes was postponed after several hundred angry OM fans stormed the club’s Commanderie training centre in protest against the board.

The invasion left seven police officers slightly hurt and led to 25 arrests.

Hooligan supporters threw smoke bombs smoke and firecrackers, with a tree catching fire, before several dozen fans breached the security fences.

A police statement said: “Three hundred supporters of OM violently attacked the police guarding the Commanderie.”

The attack on the training centre was the climax of several weeks of increasingly fraught protests before and during Marseille’s home matches.

Marseille, in a statement, denounced “an unacceptable attack and unjustifiable outburst of violence.” Damage was estimated at more than €100,000.

Earlier in the afternoon a demonstration in the city centre had been mounted against club president Jacques-Henri Eyraud.
