CAIRO:  The eligibility rules of the African football confederation have already played a significant role in deciding the shape of the executive committee beyond the elections congress in Rabat on March 12.

Tunisia’s Wadie Jary, Chad’s Adoum Djibrine and Liberia’s Mustapha Ishola Raji are almost certain to be elected to the exco after their initial rivals withdrew following eligibility checks.

The trio are now lone candidates for the roles of north, west A and central zones of CAF.

Adoum Djibrine benefits from the withdrawal of the candidacy of the president of the Cameroonian federation Seidou Mbombo Njoya.

The election in 2018 of Mr. Njoya to the presidency of the Cameroon federation was deemed illegal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after a complaint against him by Cameroon’s clubs. He remains caretaker president of Fécafoot under FIFA supervision until the next elections.
Ishola Raji was left was the only candidate for zone A from the Union of West African Football Federations (UFOA) because Guinea’s Antonio Souaré was ruled out by the CAF governance commission. This ruled that  he had not provided “satisfactory legal documentation proving his withdrawal from a sports betting company” – one of the conditions to stand.
The head of the sports betting company Guinea Games said he sold it to a British organisation.
