BUENOS AIRES: Argentinian club Velez Sarsfield have suspended two of their most outstanding young players over allegations of sexual abuse.

Miguel Brizuela and Thiago Almada, one of the most highly-rated young players, were notified of the conplaint by the gender violence section of the San Isidro judicial department.

Velez then took action.

A statement said: “It has been decided to temporarily suspend both professionals from the first team until the legal situations is resolved. The footballers will be supported by the club’s psychology office.”

Velez said that on December 4, a woman reported having been sexually abused by a man at a clandestine party attended by four Vélez players – Brizuela, Ricardo Centurión, Juan Martin Lucero and Almada.

The clandestine party was held in a house in Buenos Aires defiance of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The woman’s lawyer, Raquel Hermida Leyenda, said her client was still “in shock”after the alleged incident.
