MARSEILLE: Argentinian Jorge Sampaoli has reportedy agreed to take over as new coach of French former European champions Olympique Marseille.

The 60-years-old, current coach of Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro, has agreed a contract until 2023 to succeed André Villas-Boas who quit after a transfer policy row.

Club officials hope Sampaoli will be signed up b time to lead his new team next Sunday at home Lyon.

This would be Sampaoli’s second European experience after he led Sevilla to fourth place in the Spanish league in 2017 but then failed to progress beyond the second round of the subsequent season’s Champions League.

The high point of his career was leading Universidad de Chile to three domestic titles and to the Copa Sudamericana in 2011 before then guiding Chile to Copa América success in 2014. They beat Argentina in the final on penalties.
