LONDON: Premier League champions Liverpool have struck yet another injury setback with captain Jordan Henderson ruled out until April.

Henderson had been standing in as a central defender after earlier injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Fabinho and Joe Gomez.

The England midfielder, 30, has undergone surgery on a damaged groin muscle. He was injured during the first half of the Reds’ 2-0 defeat by Everton in the Merseyside derby last Saturday.

Key games he will miss include Liverpool’s Premier League home game with Chelsea and Champions League last-16 second leg against RB Leipzig, and England’s three World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.
