BARCELONA: Joan Laporta has reclaimed the presidency of Spanish champions Barcelona for a second spell 11 years after his first seven-year ended.

Laporta was voted back into office by a members’ election conference in succession to Josep Maria Bartomeu who quit after a multiplicity of crises which also involved his own arrest last week in a payments controversy.

Laporta was always favourite to defeat Victor Font and Toni Freixa.

Under Laporta the club won 12 trophies, including two Champions League crowns, four Spanish league titles and a Copa del Rey.

Barcelona are currently second in the LaLiga table behind Atletico Madrid who were held 1-1 by neighbours Real Madrid.
