FRANKFURT: Robert Lewandowski has become the second leading scorer in the history of the unified German Bundesliga with his latest goal in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Werder Bremen.

The Poland centre-forward equalled Klaus Fischer (268 goals) and now only has Gerd Müller (365) ahead of him in the all-time rankings.

Lewandowski, 32, is in his 11th season in the German top flight after joining Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan in 2010. He transferred to Bayern in 2014,

Fischer scored his golals in 535 games, between the late 1960s and early 1980s with 1860 Munich, Schalke, Koln and Bochum, while the Pole has reached this figure in 345 matches.

Müller is the only striker with an average goals per game (0.85) better than Lewandowski (0.77).

Lewandowski, the FIFA player of the year, is on track to be the league top scorer for the fourth consecutive season and the sixth in total.
