COPENHAGEN: The Danish government has said that at least 12,000 fans will attend the group stage matches in the European Championship finals in June and July.

European federation UEFA is assessing the prospect for ‘live’ crowds at the matches of the rescheduled tournament before deciding on the  programme shape early next month.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has said that all 12 venues across Europe will be expected to confirm the presence of fans.

Danish Culture Minister Joy Mogensen told DR broadcaster that the Parken stadium in Copenhagen will be open to at 30pc of its 38,000-seat capacity, adding that more fans could be allowed if local pandemic conditions allow.

Danish DBU ceo Jakob Jensen said: “We are very happy that the government is reporting a positive signal on time regarding the fans coming to the stadium for the Euro matches. It is a big and very important step to have a football party and to have a sense of community in the Parken and in Denmark this summer.”

Denmark will face Finland, Belgium and Russia at the Parken stadium, which will also host one of the second round ties.

Russian authorities have indicated that the St Petersburg stadium will be open by up to 50pc and further assurances have reportedly come from Azerbaijan.
