NYON: Stephanie Frappart will add another milestone to her impressive cv after being listed to become the first female to officiate at a men’s European Championship.

The Frenchwoman, 37, became the first to referee in a men’s Champions League match in December and was also the first female referee to take charge of a men’s World Cup Qualifier in March.

Now she has been appointed as a support match official for the re-arranged Euro 2020 and will act as a fourth official.

Frappart refereed the women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands in 2019 as well as the Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea in the same year. She has also took charge of men’s matches in Ligue 1 and the Europa League.

Premier League referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor have also been chosen as referees for the rescheduled tournament, which will begin on 11 June.

In addition, as part of an exchange programme within the framework of the cooperation agreement between UEFA and the South American confederation CONMEBOL, for the first time ever a South American referee will join the European group of referees and a European will travel to South America.

Argentinian referee Fernando Rapallini and his assistants will join the selected European referees for Euro 2020 whlle a Spanish refereeing team led by Jesús Gil Manzano will be among officials for the Copa América in Argentina and Colombia.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said: “The exchange of referees with CONMEBOL for our two flagship tournaments will enrich both competitions, and will enhance the experience of top referees.

“Europe and South America have so much football quality and tradition, including in refereeing. This exchange is a defining part of our cooperation programme, which will help us improve our competitions.”

Each refereeing team at Euro 2020 will consist of a referee, two assistant referees, a fourth official, a reserve assistant referee at the stadium, and a team of four video match officials.

Preparatjon will include a course for all officials in Istanbul from May 10 to 13.

Istanbul will also be the base camp for them all from June 7 until the completion of the quarter-finals, after which the remaining match officials will move to London for the final three matches.
