ROME: Gabriele Gravina, president of the Italian football federation, has said that Juventus will be kicked out of Serie A unless they formally abandon the Super League.

Milan and Inter have already withdrawn from the project – of which they were founders, along with Juve and nine other clubs – but the Turin club have not.

Gravina told a radio station: “The rules are clear. If Juventus are still part of the Super League when next season starts, they will not be able to compete in Serie A.

“I would be sorry for the Juventus fans but the rules are the rules and they apply to everyone. I hope that this support for the Super League will end soon.”

Real Madrid and Barcelona have also refused to abandon the Super League project.

The Super League was created on April 18, with 12 clubs as founders: by the Premier, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham, which in the face of widespread opposition, especially from English fans and the Government of the United Kingdom, withdrew from the project 48 hours later, on April 20.

The ‘Big Six’ of the Premier have already signed, like Atlético, Milan and Inter, a commitment with UEFA to participate only in the competitions that they organize and give up 5pc of their UEFA revenues.

The FIGC recently adopted a new rule, which will come into effect from next June, by which clubs that want to register in Serie A cannot participate in other competitions not recognized by FIFA, UEFA and the Italian federation.
