KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTING —- England captain Harry Kane has told Tottenham, his only professional club, that he wants to leave North London this summer.

Champions Manchester City, neighbours United and Chelsea are all on alert as the three clubs with the pandemic-defying financial strength to afford the £120m-plus fee which Spurs would demand,

Kane is 28 this summer and has grown increasingly frustrated at Spurs’ failure to bring him the trophies his goals record deserves though he has three years remaining on his contract. Kane is second-only to Jimmy Greaves (266) in the all-time ranking of Tottenham’s leading marksmen.

Harry Kane . . . words Spurs' fans had prayed would never come

The distractive timing of Kane’s pursuit of a move comes at a bad time for England manager Gareth Southgate who names his squad for the Euro 2020 finals in the middle of next week.

City will be losing Sergio Aguero at the end of the season, with his contract expiring, and are keen to replace the Argentinian.

Manchester United were thought to be looking at other positions after extending Edinson Cavani’s contract at the club, but have long held an interest in Kane.

Chelsea have been misfiring in attack despite the presence of Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.

Real Madrid and Barcelona will also be in the running.

Goals haul

Kane has become one of the most prolific strikers in the world since making his Tottenham debut in 2009, scoring 220 goals in 334 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Even in this disappointing season for the club, and with him hampered by another ankle injury, Kane has netted 32 goals in all competitions.

He has also become his country’s talisman and focal point, winning the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup and taking his international tally to 34 goals in 53 games for England.

Back in 2017, Kane told Sky Sport that he would be “disappointed” if “in three years time” Spurs had not won a trophy.

A second-placed finish in the Premier League, and Champions League and, most recently, League Cup runners-up medals followed, but no silverware.
