MUNICH: The power switch at German champions Bayern Munich is being brought forward.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will hand over as board chairman to Oliver Kahn at the end of this month rather than the end of the year, as originally pl;anned.

Rummenigge has reportedly decided to step down in the next few weeks since the fiscal year ends in June and he also considers that a midseason change would not be helpful.

Rummenigge, who played for Bayern for 10 years, joined the management in 1991. Until 2002 he was vice president of the club and then became effective ceo.

Former Germany goalkeeper Kahn was already a member of the board.
