GLASGOW: Steve Clarke is expected to continue as manager of Scotland for the World Cup qualifying campaign despite the disappointing Euro 2020 exit to Croatia.

Scotland’s 24 matches under Clarke included defeats in both Hampden fixtures in Group D which sandwiched the frenetic goalless draw against England at Wembley. They return to action in the World Cup qualifiers in Denmark on September 1.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell said: “Steve was disappointed on going out but he’s very focused on learning from it.

“We’ll sit down and make an assessment. His words were, ‘I’m going to take a bit of time and then I’ve got September to prepare for’.”

Maxwell added: “We were the lowest-ranked country in the group for a reason unfortunately – we want that to improve – but we were up against good teams.”
