BUENOS AIRES: Leopoldo Luque, the neurosurgeon and personal physician of Diego Maradona, has been summoned to submit a formal court statement on Monday about his treatment before the superstar’s death from heart failure on November 25.

Luque will be the last to be questioned by the prosector office at San Isidro, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, in an investigation over allegations of “aggravated manslaughter .”

Two nurses have already been interviewed as well as their superior, a doctor who coordinated home care, a psychologist and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov – all members of Maradona’s care staff.

Maradona, who suffered from kidney and liver problems, heart failure, neurological deterioration and addiction to alcohol and psychotropic drugs, died at the age of 60.

The Prosecutor’s Office has alleged that the care staff “failed to fulfill their duties by increasing the risk beyond the allowed margin, which caused the fatal outcome of the patient, which could have been avoided.”

One expert opinion concluded at the beginning of May that Maradona had been “abandoned to his fate ” by his medical team, whose “inadequate, deficient and reckless” treatment had led him to his final deterioration over 12 hours.
