NYON: Dutchnan Björn Kuipers will referee Sunday’s UEFA Euro 2020 final between Italy and England at Wembley.

The 48-year-old, an international referee since 2006, will be the first referee from the Netherlands to take charge of a Euro final. It will be his seventh UEFA competition final.

Previous appointments included:

2018 Europa League final between Marseille and Atlético Madrid;

2014 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atlético ;

2013 Europa League final between Benfica and Chelsea;

2011 Super Cup match between Barcelona and Porto;

2009 UEFA Under-21 European final between Germany and England; and

2006 European Under-17 final between Czech Republic and Russia.

Kuipers was also a member of the referees’ team at Euro 2012 and 2016 plus the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

At this year’s Euro he has refereed two group stage matches: Denmark-Belgium and Slovakia-Spain as well as the quarter-final between Czech Republic and Denmark.

He was also fourth official for the group stage match between England and Croatia.

Björn Kuipers will be joined at Sunday’s final by Dutch assistants Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra, while Carlos Del Cerro Grande (Spain) will be fourth official.

The video assistant referee (VAR) role has been assigned to Bastian Dankert (Germany), and he will be accompanied by Pol van Boekel (Netherlands), Christian Gittelmann and Marco Fritz (both Germany). Juan Carlos Yuste Jiménez (Spain) completes the line-up as assistant reserve referee.
