KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: A new row is threatened between South American football federations and European clubs after the CONMEBOL confederation announced the dates for the three-fixture World Cup international window next month.
Earlier this month chaos ensued after a number of European leagues and clubs sought to bar their players from flying to South America because of the quarantine demands awaiting on their return.
CONMEBOL has confirmed the following dates for the next rounds of qualifying ties in the 2022 World Cup: Wednesday October 7, Sunday October 10 and Thursday October 14.
Group leaders Brazil will face bottom team Venezuela in Caracas, then Colombia in Barranquilla and return home to play Uruguay in Manaus – one of the country’s worst Covid-affected cities.
Argentina, second to six points behind Brazil, will play first against Paraguay in AsunciĆ³n, then they will host Uruguay in Buenos Aires and complete their schedule against Peru, also in the Argentinian capital.
