KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: High-profile football memorabilia linked to two of the very greatest footballers of all time – Alfredo di Stefano and Pele – comes up for auction on Wednesday.
The trophies and medals won by Di Stefano – inspirational centre-forward to River Plate, Millonarios and most notably Real Madrid – have been brought forward by his family. Pele’s items have been offered for auction in aid of the Pele Foundation charitable institution.
Staging Wednesday’s sale is Julien’s Auctions and the items will remain on public view until Friday at the company’s Mall Galleries in London.
The Di Stefano items include all five of his European Champions-winning medals from 1956 until 1960 including the iconic 1969 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt; his eight Spanish league champions trophies won from 1954 to 1964 and his Ballon d’Or awards.
Pele items feature a personally-commissioned 18 carat gold-plated bronze foot, a Santos shirt signed in honor of his 80th birthday and 50th anniversary of Pelé’s 3rd World Cup triumph and two of Pelé’s signed Santos goalkeeper shirts.
Also on offer will be items donated by other stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
