MADRID: Champions Atletico Madrid piled further pressure on Ronald Koeman by defeating Barcelona 2-0 with one goal coming from ex-Barca striker Luis Suarez.
Barcelona started with 17-year-old midfielder Gavi, fresh from a shock Spain call up in midweek, in midfield but Atletico went ahead on 23 minutes when Suarez set up Thomas Lemar.
It was Atletico’s all-time second most expensive signing scoring from a pass from the all-time highest – over 200m euros worth giving the home side the lead.
Philippe Coutinho shot just wide as Barcelona sought a rapid response in vain.
Suarez effectively killed off the match just before half-time.
