TURIN: France captain Hugo Lloris has echoed the opinion of national team coach Didier Deschamps in opposing FIFA proposals to stage the World Cup every two years instead of the traditional four years.

Lloris and his team-mates are in Italy preparing for their Nations League semi-final against Belgium in Turin on Thursday.

FIFA’s phalanx of golden oldie ‘legends’ have back a proposal which has met little support among current players and managers.

Lloris said: “I do not have full information to comment on what is being debated but, on personally, I believe that the World Cup should continue to be something rare and be held every four years for it to be protected.”

FIFA is undertaking a high-speed feasibility which has aroused fierce opposition from all around the European game.
