MILAN: Italian champions Internazonale have announced that Christian Eriksen will not be able to play in Italy this season and has prepared a route for his departure.

The decision follows the cardiac arrest the 29-year-old Danish playmaker suffered on June 12 during the Euro 2020 group tie against Finland in Copenhagen.

Eriksen was fitted in hospital with an implanted automatic defibrillator but, according to Francesco Braconaro, a member of the scientific committee of the Italian federation, he cannot play in Italy unless device is removed.

A subsequent Inter statemnt said: “With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen, it should be noted that following a serious injury that occurred during the European Championship in June 2021, the player has been temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sports activity in the current season.

“Although the current conditions of the player do not meet the requirements to achieve sporting fitness in Italy, this could be achieved in other countries where the player could resume competitive activity.”
