NYON: Clubs and the national team from Belarus have been ordered by European football federation UEFA to play all international home matches at neutral venues behind closed doors.

This follows the suspension of all Russian teams from international tournaments after last week’s military invasion of Ukraine.

Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko has allowed Russian troops to use the country as an invasion base.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said it was “impossible to say” when Russia would be allowed to compete again.

He added: “At this moment our decision was the only right decision. What happens tomorrow, nobody knows.

“For now it stays like that and we are waiting for peace to come. Football will be the least important thing then.”
