LONDON: Reiss Nelson re-emerged from the Arsenal shadows with two goals in the Premier leaders’ easy 5-0 defeat of bottom club Nottingham Forest.

Nelson, back after his loan spells with Hoffenheim and Feyenoord, capitalised on a substitute’s chance after early injury to Bukayo Saka. Manager Mikel Arteta was unable to clarify later the extent of the injury which threatens the winger’s World Cup prospects.

This was Nelson’s first league appearance of the season the goals his first for the Gunners since 2020. Gabriel Martinelli, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard scored the other three.

Marcus Rashford may have secured his place in England’s World Cup squad with his 100th goal for Manchester United. Rashford’s fourth Premier goal of the season secured a 1-0 win over West Ham which lifted United to fifth in the table.

England team-mate Harry Maguire also had a solid game in defence on his first league start since August 13. Brazil coach Tite was in the Old Trafford crowd of 73,682 to check out midfielders Casemiro and substitute Fred.

Cristiano Ronaldo played an energetic full 90 minutes after making his peace with manager Erik ten Hag.
