DOHA: Uruguay and South Korea will struggle to progress in this World Cup unless they can produce more creativity and sharper instincts in front of goal.
The pair played out a goalless draw in the Group G opening fixture in the Education City Stadium.
The first half saw South Korea’s Hwang Ui-jo shoot hastily over the bar when clear in front of goal shortly before Uruguay captain Diego Godin headed a corner against a post at the other end.
South Korea had controlled most of the first half but Uruguay began to dominate as the game wore on and almost won it in the final minute of normal time when Federico Valverde’s long-range effort crashed off the post.
One last chance fell to Tottenham striker Son Heung-min but he dragged his shot wide.
