LONDON: Erling Haaland’s remarkable start to his new career in the English Premier League with Manchester City has now seen him take over top spot in the first post-World Cup ranking for the ESM European Golden Shoe.

Usually, at this stage in the year, it is the leading marksmen from the Nordic nations – who play a calendar-aligned season – who dominate the early overall scoring charts.

But Haaland has now overtaken Amahl Pellegrino, the 32-year-old forward of Norway’s Bodo/Glimt, who scored 25 goals in the completed season. Haaland’s 21 goals lift him into the because he – like all other players in Big Five – benefit from a multiplier of two.

Players in leagues between places six and 22 of the UEFA national ranking 2022 receive a 1.5 coëfficiënt. As in former years the ranbking does not include play-offs or cup matches in the official ranking.
