LONDON: Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are contesting the runners-up slot behind Erling Haaland in the ‘live’ race for the ESM European Golden Shoe.

The weekend saw England captain Kane take his tally to 17 with Tottenham’s winner against Manchester City – for whom Haaland barely touched the ball, let alone scored – while Nigerian Osimhen scored twice in Napoli’s 3-0 win at Spezia.

Either man will shortly overtake, on points, second-placed Amahl Pellegrino, the 32-year-old from Norway’s Bodo/Glimt who scored 25 goals in the completed season.

Marksmen from the Big Five benefit from a points multiplier of two. Players in leagues between places six and 22 of the UEFA national ranking 2022 receive a 1.5 coëfficiënt. As in former years the ranbking does not include play-offs or cup matches in the official ranking.
