MILAN/PARIS: Paris Saint-Germain, for all their superstar credentials, once more came unstuck on the Champions League as Leo Messi & Co lost 1-0 at home to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League clash.

The night’s other clash saw Milan grab a narrow 1-0 at home to Tottenham in the Stadio Meazza at San Siro.

Former PSG winger Kingsley Coman was Bayern’s matchwinner after volleying a deserved 53rd-minute winner for the German champions, who dominated until the latter stages when Kylian Mbappe came off the bench.

Mbappe, a substitute after recovering from injury, twice had the ball in the net late on as PSG rallied, but both goals were ruled out for offside.

Bayern’s Benjamin Pavard will miss the second leg after he was sent off for a second booking for bringing down Messi in stoppage time.

The match was particular for PSG forward Warren Zaïre-Emery who, at 16 years and 343 days, became the first player under the age of 17 to start a knockout phase tie in Champions League history.

Spurs setback

Tottenham will have to do things the hard way if they want to progress after losing 1-0 to AC Milan for whom Brahim Diaz struck after only seven minutes.

They could have been returning to London with a heavier deficit, with Ivan Perisic having to clear off the line and then Malick Thiaw sending a free header wide as the hosts finished strongly.

Tottenham, erratic all season amid injuries to key players, will have to be much better in the return leg in three weeks if they are to have any hope of overturning Milan’s lead.
