LONDON: Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is a doubt for Wednesday’s Premier League top-of-the table match at Arsenal after he was injured during the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Haaland, who has scored 25 Premier League goals this season, came off at half-time on Sunday as City led 3-0.

City boss Pep Guardiola said: “Erling has a knock; he was uncomfortable. At half-time I spoke with the doctors. They said maybe with the score like it is we don’t take risks and I agreed. Hopefully he can be in for Wednesday.”

Haaland is clear leader in the ESM European Golden Shoe ranking ahead of Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Either man will shortly overtake, on points, second-placed Amahl Pellegrino, the 32-year-old from Norway’s Bodo/Glimt who scored 25 goals in the completed season.

Marksmen from the Big Five benefit from a points multiplier of two. Players in leagues between places six and 22 of the UEFA national ranking 2022 receive a 1.5 coëfficiënt. As in former years the ranbking does not include play-offs or cup matches in the official ranking.
