LONDON: France is the only country with a multiple entry in the current rankings for the ESM Golden Shoe for European football’s leading league marksman.

Folarin Balogun from Reims, Jonathan David from Lille and Kylian Mbappe from champions Paris Saint-Germain all have 15 goals and thus rank joint fifth.

They are a full 11 goals adrift of Erling Haaland who extended his Manchester City tally in the English Premier League to 26 after scoring in last midweek’s victory at Arsenal.

Balogun: plenty of options

Balogun, born in the United States but an England under-21 international, is on loan to Reims from Arsenal.

Mbappe scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season in PSG’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Lille for whom Canadian David converted a penalty.

Marksmen from the Big Five benefit from a points multiplier of two. Players in leagues between places six and 22 of the UEFA national ranking 2022 receive a 1.5 coëfficiënt. As in former years the ranking does not include play-offs or cup matches in the official ranking.
