LONDON: Goals from Rodri in the first half then Bernardo Silva and the inevitable Erling Haaland fired Manchester City to a potemtially decisive 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Rodri’s remarkable curling effort from distance in the 27th minute gave manager Pep Guardiola’s hosts a first-half lead ahead of a second-half onslaught which left Bayern stunned and in danger of worse.
Bernardo Silva finished after a mistake by Dayot Upamecano, the assist provided by the prolific Erling Haaland who then scored his 45th goal of the season in all competitions.
The German champions did see some efforts, with Matthijs de Ligt and Kingsley Coman failing to convert from close range. Benjamin Pavard’s off-balance header was their best opportunity of the game.
City’s victory means that Pep Guardiola’s men are all-but-through to the final four, with Bayern facing a mountain to climb when the two meet in Munich.
