—- Erling Haaland and Manchester City began the new Premier League campaign as they ended the old won with a comfortable 3-0 defeat of promoted Burnley.
Haaland, the league’s 36-goal leading marksman last season, needed just three minutes open his account after Rodri headed down a Kevin de Bruyne cross. He shot his second past ex-City keeper James Trafford after 36 minutes.
Rodri scored the third with 15 minutes left after Burnley’s defence failed to clear a free-kick. Burnley had Anass Zaroury sent off in injury time, after a the video assistant referee review, for a dangerous lunge on Kyle Walker.
The only cloud for City was an injury which forced De Bruyne out of the game after only 23 minutes. The Belgian spent the summer recovering from the hamstring injury that forced him out of the Champions League final win over Internazionale after 36 minutes.
