KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: Harry Kane’s prolific start to his new career in Germany with Bayern Munich – last weekend’s thrashing by Eintracht Frankfurt – continues to see him joint top of the ESM Golden Shoe ranking for the leading marksman in European league football.

Usually at this time of year the table is led, temporarily, by top scorers from the northern European leagues which run from spring to autumn. Kane, however, has broken the mould.

Currently he leads with 36 points for his 18 goals in the Bundesliga since the Golden Shoe ranking applies a balance of league strengths based on the UEFA club compution coefficients.

Thus Kane shares the lead with Amahl Pellergino who has scored a full complement of 36 goals in Norway for Bodo/Glimt. Last season’s winner, Erling Haaland of Manchestr City, is fifth.

Marksmen from the Big Five (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) benefit from a points multiplier of two. Players in leagues between places six and 22 of the UEFA national ranking 2022 receive a 1.5 coëfficiënt. As in former years the ranking does not include play-offs or cup matches in the official ranking.
