LIVERPOOL: Manchester United produced their best performance under Ruben Amorin to frustrate Liverpool’s hopes of extending their lead at the top of the English Premier League.
United led early in the second half, fell 2-1 behind then snatched an equaliser a hard-earned and deserved point in the Anfield rain. They iught even have won it but Harry Maguire shot over the bar from when unmarked in front of an open goal in the sixth of the seven minutes of stoppage time.
Liverpool neverthess remain six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.
United, attempting to avoid four successive defeats for the first time since 1979, took a lead against the run of play through Lisandro Martinez after 52 minutes. Liverpool levelled seven minutes later with a fine angled drive from when Cody Gakpo.
Mohamed Salah equalled Thierry Henry’s tally of 175 Premier League goals from the penalty spot with 20 minutes left after handball by Matthijs de Ligt. This time it was United who hit back when Amad Diallo converted an Alejandro Garnacho assist.
Harry Maguire could have won the game for United with almost the final kick but he blazed Joshua Zirkzee’s bobbled pass over the bar from 12 yards.
