LONDON/SWANSEA: Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has become the first Swansea City player to be named the Premier League Player of the Month.
Sigurdsson, on loan from German club Hoffenheim, scored four goals as Swansea won three out of four games in March. He had made an immediate impression after his January arrival in setting up Danny Graham for Swansea’s winner against Arsenal. The 22-year-old then Sigurdsson scored twice in Swansea’s victories at Wigan and Fulham as well as in last Sunday’s defeat at Tottenham.
The only catch for Swansea, who would like to sign Sirgurdsson permanently, is that with every further achievement on and off the pitch his transfer value will be rising as far as Hoffenheim are concerned.
The awards panel is made up of governing bodies, the media and fans. Manager of the month was Bolton’s Owen Coyle.
