LONDON/MONTEVIDEO: The last time Uruguay appeared at the Olympic football finals they took away the gold medal for a second time. The bid to land a third will be led by Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
The 25-year-old is one of three over-age players in the Celeste’s 18-man squad along with Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and Palermo midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios. Suarez’s Liverpool team-mate, defender Sebastian Coates, and Ajax midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro are also included.
Uruguay are one of Great Britain’s opponents in Group A, along with Senegal and United Arab Emirates. They open their programme against the United Arab Emirates at Old Trafford on July 26 – the day before the Opening Ceremony. They play Senegal at Wembley on July 29 and then Team GB in Cardiff on August 1.
