WARSAW: It was hardly pretty but England forged on towards the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil by hanging on grimly for a 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Poland in Warsaw.
Wayne Rooney opened the scoring against the run of play after just over half an hour but Poland levelled in the closing stages – deservedly – when keeper Joe Hart misjudged an attempt to grab a corner and was beaten by a header from defender Glik.
The match was played in the afternoon with the stadium roof closed after the previous evening’s postponement following heavy rain which had left the pitch waterlogged.
